So let's get to learn in husky community you're gonna want to get yourself some high-value treats now I have a little biscuit right here but if your dog isn't the type of dog that likes biscuits go ahead and get yourself some turkey dogs love turkey and it's totally okay to feed your pup aroni Pete some fresh Turk now once you got your treats you're basically ready to begin if you have two dogs I would encourage you to do one dog at a time because this is going to stress both of them out and you don't want one dog encouraging the other dog to be more stressed out and vice-versa so go ahead and try and work with one pup at a time ooh Kitty cameo so with that said you got your pup o in front and you're getting ready to teach them how to stop being so crazy I know it's really stressing you out because all you want to do is leave your dogs at home and go do your thing but they will break everything in your house because they are so flippin stressed out all right so you got your dog oh right go ahead and find yourself.

A really nice looking door this door looks pretty good so we're gonna go ahead and use it now that you got your treat you got your dog you got your door you're ready to teach your dog how to not be so crazy when you leave them alone all right so what you're gonna do is you're gonna take your pup and you're gonna order them to go on the other side of the door so let's go ahead and do that first he let come on go ahead sit stay so now while Gila is sitting here in the room and she's staying we're gonna take this door and we're gonna close it while we say stay stay we're not gonna close it all the way we're just gonna do that and we're gonna open it back up now she stayed which is very good so we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna reward that behavior good girl that was a very good girl now we're gonna increase the time we're actually gonna close the door completely and see if we can get Gila to stay in the same location so let's go ahead tell her to stay while we close this door stay stay we're gonna open it up immediately and she is still in the same spot.

How to Train a Husky to Be Alone?

You got a practice and practice my friends makes perfect so let's go ahead and push the envelope a little bit more let's see how long we can actually get Britney Spears to sit without me even being in the room let's go get more treats all right Britney Spears come go in the room good boy I want you to sit for me buddy good boy stay I want you to stay stay one two three stay good boy you did I got boy you could take the tree buddies you kept going this is all it takes guys baby baby baby steps now like I said if your dog is getting nervous before you're even getting to close the door just take it one step back take the door close it like this then like that then reward do these tiny little baby steps and make sure your Papo is being rewarded for taking the time without you behind the door I hope that you guys are able to use this on your husk O's on your puppies get them to chill out calm down and let go of a little bit of that pup Oh stop to dog separation anxiety now if you guys have any questions you can leave them down below I try and take an hour or two every single day what kind of problems they have because you know what every single dog Oh in the entire world is different so every single situation is gonna be different I like to help you guys out as much as possible so that's gonna do it for us today guys hope we helped you with that little anxiety problem.

How to Stop Dogs Digging Under Your Fence, Gate, or Garden?

how to stop dogs digging

This is a articel on how to deter dog from digging under a gate to keep this articel as short as possible I'll do a separate articel on how to keep animals from digging under a fence where I live in Florida the biggest problem I have is probably armadillos next would be dogs and turtles but who knows what you might have digging under your fence it's best to have a solid material instead of something like fence wire because wire materials they can see through and sometimes if the animal can see through it it makes him more inclined to dig there are a lot of other methods people use but a lot of them don't work well for drive through gates and in my case that's what I really needed some of them work okay for walk through gates some of them don't even work good for walk through gates cement is pretty good for a walk through gate it takes a lot of effort a lot of time but you can't use it on a drive through great gate unless you make it really thick and heavy because it will crack wire fence material works OK in a walk through gate it doesn't work very well in a drive-through gate because it tends to bend and get pulled up quite a bit and even around a walk through gate sometimes the edge of the fence material the the wire fence material will come up and then say if you're paying somebody to mow your yard they get hung up in their mower you may have come to pay for damages to a mower and like I said the animals can kind of seat through it to a certain extent so they think they're getting somewhere.

How to Stop a Dog From Digging Under a Fence?

So they may tend to dig even though they don't realize they can't get anywhere rocks in Florida rocks are kind of hard to come by so they're kind of expensive they're also heavy you can't drive on on that much or they'll tend to sink down into the sand even when you don't drive on them they tend to sink in the sand and you have to do a lot of digging to get enough rocks down and they're deep enough to keep animals under it alright one problem you'll run into especially in Florida with our sandy soil is the fence companies tend to use four by fours and they intend to use eight-foot four by fours and a lot of times they won't even use the entire eight feet till dig down a couple of feet at the most put the post in the ground put cement around and then cut cut the top off  so you know you don't necessarily have a lot of post in the ground and so the best thing to do is not to disturb the ground right around the post and the way you avoid that is by using a 2x4 stake and then just drive the stake as close as you can to the post perpendicular to it so that you know you're you're as close as you can to either the cement or the post and that way you're not disturbing the ground that's really close to that post.

If you disturb it and then you have a big storm you're liable to have your fence fall over and be sure and put a board a tooth like a 2x4 on top of the two before when you're driving it into the ground and the sledgehammer and then that way you won't split the steak or mushroom the head of it make it look bad depending on the type of wood you get you know if it's a good treated 2x4 or whatever it is two by six two by eight if it's a really good treated board and this part of Florida lasts five to ten years it really depends on what the weather is like how much water there is if you've got a sprinkler head spray in it how bad the insects are in your area if you really have an area that's a big problem you could always use a piece of steel that's just expensive and more difficult to get if you have to dig more than a thin slot to get your board into the ground be sure to dig more on the side of the fence opposite from the way the animals will be coming from that way you're not disturbing the ground once you disturb the ground it makes it easier for them to get through.

I like to use a thin Spade to dig the slot or maybe a sharp shooter if I'm having to dig a lot try not to dig too deep once you get it close put your to buy into the ground and then tap it into place with a sledgehammer you might want to put a two buffer or on top of it when you're with a sledgehammer so that you don't splinter the board when you're through if your board sticks up too high you've probably lost a lot of dirt from either driving through the area or animals digging under your fence so fill in around it with some dirt maybe even gravel to ramp the ground up to the height of the board this way you won't tend to push the board over when you're driving over it then you can put some fertilizer down and maybe sprig some grass and water it occasionally until your ground and the grass gets reestablished that's I hope you have found how to stop dog digging in fence training in this articel. Train Your Dog to Stop Pulling On the Leash in 4 Easy Steps

train your dog to stop pulling on the leash

Hi I am certified dog trainer and haver consultant Jenny Sam and in this articel I want to show you guys about how to teach your dog to walk nicely on the lead where they're pulling your arms out of the socket so obviously what we want here is the dog to be beside you not pulling far ahead and we want to do this because walking dogs are pulling the lead is not fun it's not pretty and it's not enjoyable for you and it's not enjoyable for the dog if we can get your dog cam and walking nicely on the lead it means that first of all they're going to be less reactive they're gonna be less windup and they're gonna be nicer to other dogs that they meet and next up it means that there'll be more in control of their behaviors so they won't be out of control frantic instead they'll be paying attention and and listening and thinking about their behaviors and then it means that we're gonna be that little bit more comfortable instead of having our arms pulled out of their sockets so teaching your dog not to pull in the lead.

Has many benefits for you and for the dog so breaking the training into steps means that it's gonna be much easier for you guys to accomplish at home so the four steps that we're going to use for teaching the dog to walk nicely on the lead it's first of all we're gonna get the behavior so can we get the dog beside us for a few seconds once we've done that we want to name the behavior so we want to tell your dog that when you recite me I'm a walking forward you're doing a heel then what we want to do is increase that behavior so we want to make it that little bit harder and get the dog to really figure out that ooh I got to stay beside mom or dad for good things to happen and then what we're going to do is we're going to request the behavior so we want to started teaching the dog that when I ask you to heel it means stick beside me walk nicely and we'll get to the park what we'll do at the very end then is increase the challenge because walking nicely on the lead is all well and good in the kitchen but when you see the park ahead and there's lots of dogs playing your dogs more likely to want to get there.

Dog Pulling on Leash Choking

So I'll show you what to do in that situation too so step one of get the behavior what we want to do is have your lead loose in one hand your treat on the other hand and have the dark on the side of the treat what we're going to do is pop the dog in front of the dog's nose and walk ahead usually if you walk in a circle it's easier to keep the dog on the outside so they've more trouble and once we get the dog moving forward in a couple of steps following the trace give the dog the treat that's all they need to do initially they need to win and see oh I just follow the treatment good things happen so stage one you're gonna have the lead loose in one hand the Treat in the other and the dog on the other side and just see will the dog follow you for a few steps so treat on the nose and see if they'll follow if you're moving in circles keep the dog on the outside because that way then they have more land to cross good girl so she can follow me next step.

Then is to name the behavior so lead him on hunt loose dog on the other side treat her on their nose walk a couple of steps say he'll walk another couple of steps treat and praise that way we're telling the dog what they're doing is called heel so now we're gonna tell her that what she's doing is called a heel so back to the start get her to follow me a few steps here good girl good girl good girl repeat that step lots of matsutake move under steps free way once you've done the name the behavior of stage several times and your dog is happy enough to walk along and you're starting to build up to a good 20 25 steps we're going to increase the behavior so we're gonna make it that little bit harder what I want you to do here is start having an extra treat in your lead hand and start putting the treat hand into a fist do the exact same thing have the fist in front of your dog's nose say what walk a couple of steps say.

He'll walk a few more steps and then give them the treat from the other hand so the nice starting to learn to just follow along beside you they're still kind of following the treat but instead they know the treats coming from the other side they just not to stay here stay by my owners side and good things will still happen so now I've treats in my lead hand and I also have this Treat in the fist so good girl heel good girl good girl just a couple of steps stop and reward from the other hand good same thing again so treating the fist my actual treats in my other hand good girl heel good girl and then reward the other hand good good the increase to stop your dog from pulling the leash the behavior stage we want to build that up slowly so initially one treat in the lead hand another treat in the fist have them follow the fifth for just four or five steps do a couple of steps heel couple more steps and then the treat from the other hand that way them they're learning that it's really easy just follow that fist and good things still happen build that up there good twenty twenty five steps again and then we move on so Stage four is request the behavior this is where we want to make sure that the dog actually understands what he'll means.

How to Train a Dog to Walk on a Leash Beside You?

So Stage four then is to request the behavior so we got to be able to ask your dog to walk nicely on the lead what you're gonna do here is have your treats again in your lead hand make sure your dog's paying attention with the treat and which is now empty you don't need to have a treat in the fist but you can still hold your hand in a loose fist anyway because your dog's familiar with following the hand make sure your dog's paying attention tell them heel and start walking forward just do a couple of steps stop treat repeat that again and again gradually increase in the distance that you take the dog on the walk so once she's ready I'm gonna ask her at the start of the behavior to do what I wanted to do and then I'm gonna get a talk along beside my hand and then reward from the other hand keeping it short to the stars so Daisy heel good girl good girl good girl good girl and treats good girl you got it good girl that's your dog learning how to walk nicely on the lead they now know that heel means stay by my owners side and good things will happen you want to start building that up to real life now so usually the biggest destruction will be the park up ahead with all their buddies where they want to go play go swimming and so on what we want to do is put something desirable ahead so what we'll do in the training is put the dogs bowl of food up ahead and then we go back to join our training will do exactly what we did in stage 4 of request the behavior except this time anytime your dog pulls ahead we'll stop we'll wait for them to pay attention to us we'll cross them to come back into heel.

Using your food reward to get them into the position but they will not get the food the reward now is moving forward towards the bowl towards the park towards your friend towards whatever they want to get to you can use your food to get them into the position but then they don't get that they get to go forward take another few steps forward stay pull again stop wait for attention ask them to heel put them in the position and walk forward again so she's gonna want that treat come here come here Daisy right sit so she's gonna want those treats she wants to move forward I'm gonna tell her heel good girl good girl and then she pulls I'm gonna stop call her back Daisy back into position good girl heel good girl good girl good girl the goal here is to make sure that you're consistent so if you let the dog pull on Tuesday and then expect them to walk nicely on Wednesday it ain't gonna happen what you can do though is if in some situations they're allowed pull pop them on a harness when they're laid pull and put them on their flat collar when they're meant to walk nicely with loose leash training you got to be consistent so stick at it work hard and your dog will benefit you'll benefit walk to be much more enjoyable and everyone will be jealous of you so I hope you enjoyed this articel if you want to find out more about stop a dog pulling on leash or different dog training techniques click below and you can also find out more on our page and dog behaviorist thank you for reading.

Loose Leash Walking: Teaching a Dog to Walk on a Loose Leash

teaching a dog to walk on a loose leash

Loose leash training is a lost art in our society right now. We have a billion dollar industry of no pull products, by this magic tool and your dog will walk on a perfect loose leash and so we see them everywhere from head collars, two-prong collars to front clip harnesses, two leashes that wrap around all the dog's legs and so we have this explosion of people who are not loose leash training their dog and the unfortunate thing is that almost all of these products create a little bit of stress in the dog, because we haven't taught them how to accept loose leash walking. how do you train a dog to walk on a loose leash?. We have just enforced our control upon. So when we force control on a dog it doesn't teach them how to actually accept that and so if your dog does not understand leash rules that is going to contribute especially to their frustration and maybe even their fear.

Loose Leash Walking Harness

If you are a very poor handler a dog is not going to want you having control of them because they are going to be afraid of that and so if dogs don't see the leash as a mental barrier and just a physical one they're going to attempt to pull through it. So if we haven't taught dogs to actually watch us and watch where we're going and we just use physical controls that's going to be frustrating and how you handle that leash is going to lead to a huge reason why. You may have a reactive dog and if your dog cannot walk on a loose leash without distractions, it's very difficult to expect that they are then going to behave themselves when there are high level distractions around. So our most important aspects is how we actually handle our leash. So the very first rule of our leash is we want to hold it by around the halfway point. So we're gonna be holding our leash by the very end and allowing our dog to have all of this leash to backlash around with.

So we want to make sure that we hold it about the halfway point and the other really important leash tip is we want to make sure that it's loose, so most reactive dog owners actually hold their leash like I'm holding it now which is putting artificial pressure up on the dog. So we want to make sure that we hold our leash actually with our hands right down beside our waist. So there is no pressure that is caused by ourselves and only pressure that would be caused by the dog pulling forward. We also want to make sure that we never use our leash to forcefully move our dogs. So I'm not going to pull Freya around if I want her to move over here I'm going to ask her like I would my friend.  I'm also never going to use the leash as a Punisher. So I'm never going to jerk her around if I don't like what she's doing. so we always want to make sure our leash is nice and loose. We’re not jerking the dog around and we aren't giving them too much leash to get in trouble with.

How Long does Loose Leash Training Take?

We also want to make sure that we never reward our dogs by moving forward on a tense leash. So if your dog does move forward and Alisha's tense, we need to do something we cannot allow our dogs to simply forge ahead and learn that it's okay to do that behavior. The other thing is that we want to be rewarding our dogs when they are walking beside us. So when Freya is beside me like this, I want to be either giving her a food reward or at the very least looking at her and smiling and telling her what a good dog she is for being in this position, because this is where I want her to be all the time when we are moving around. It’s also important to understand loose leash walking with distractions that the walk is for your dog it is not for you. So you might get some exercise out of it, but it's really for the dog.

So if your dog wants to sniff a blade of grass, if they want to nibble on a little piece of grass, if they want to check out every tree, you really should consider letting them. You can still guide the dog but you want the dog to feel as free. As possible we don't want to micromanage our dogs and we want our dogs to actually get some enrichment out on the walk. So don't feel like you need to micromanage all of your dog's activities and let them explore and have some enrichment and the last most important thing is that we don't greet other dogs on leash. So a critical skill for reactive dogs is loose leash walking. So many dogs that are reactive do not know how to walk on a loose leash. so it is imperative that we teach them this. So what is loose leash walking really well what it is is a dog who is aware that their job is to watch your body and that your body is actually relevant to where they get to move.

How to Train a Dog to Walk on a Leash Without Pulling?

So it's so important we teach a dog to actually pay attention to us not in the sense that they must focus on us, but that they must be aware of our body. So with my dog she has really great loose leash skills. She’s always walked on a flat collar even though she is 100 pound dog, but if I move around she will follow me without any prompting. So I can move around very easily and she will follow me the whole time without any cues. So she is aware that my body is relevant to where she should go, but you'll notice that the leash always remains loose I'm not putting any pressure on it at all and yet she still follows me in a fairly nice relative heel. Although this isn't important and as soon as I stop that is also her cue to stop. as well again she doesn't have to sit, she can choose the behavior she wants but she has to know that my movement is relative to hers and when she's on leash it is her job to follow me and we should see our dogs doing that off leash as well.

So there should be almost relative little difference between a dog who's on leash and off leash, but the on leash dog must be aware that there they can have no more freedom than the extent of the leash. Okay so how do we teach a dog to actually loose lease walk. Well again our goal is to make sure that the dog is aware that our body, movements is relative to theirs in a really nice easy way is to start by walking backwards. So I am going to walk backwards with Portia on a loose leash and I'm gonna click and treat her for following me and coming with me and my goal again is to not have a tight leash at any time. So we're gonna start moving and I'm gonna click and treat her very first movement because I want her following me. Now she's focusing a little bit on the tree pouch. So I'm gonna stop right there and I'm gonna delay the reward a little bit, but I really want her to be following my body.

She’s looking over at the clicker so now she's at least looking at two different places, but one of the things I really like is that she is turning with me when I turn without the leash tightening. So she is definitely following my body again. It’s important now to try to be a little discriminatory and make sure that I click entry when she's looking up in my eyes and I'm not going to click and treat when she's looking down at my pouch. I'm gonna try to have my treat hand up near my eyes, instead of near my pouch as well. So a big mistake most people make is they will have their hand on their pouch the whole time and then the dogs always looking at the pouch and as soon as the treat pouch isn't present your behavior falls apart. So we want to try to keep our hands away from those treat pouches and even put them in a pocket if you find your dog is incredibly focused. So now that we have a dog who's following us pretty nicely backwards.

How to Teach a Puppy to Walk on a Leash?

We need to not walk backwards for the rest of our life. So we are going to switch it, up we are gonna pivot into a left side heel and my new goal will be to then reward Portia for following me on my left side. So here we go, here's my pivot and now we're gonna walk forward and I'm going to reach across and reward her on this end and now the nice thing about this is the treat pouch is now away from her eyesight. So I'm rewarding her for staying in this position my job is to make sure my hand comes out and rewards her before she gets out of position. So if I allow her to get out of position I can simply correct this by turning the dog doesn't have to do the correction I do and then she simply keeps earning her rewards. When you have a reactive dog, it's very important that your dog be in a consistent place. I don't want Portia to end up on my right side when we turn. So I always want to make sure I use my leash a little bit as a guide to make sure that she stays on the left and also that the rewards happen on the left.

So she doesn't ever try to cut over to my right side as we move.  So this looks very nice. We're going to start reducing the reward so there's the cut over you saw she tried to go over to the right a little bit. So she corrected herself and I rewarded that. So we don't want a reactive dog doing that cut over behavior and we definitely want to make sure she never practices going out in front of me when she's during that initial stage of walking. So there's the cut over so I'm gonna fix that and there's a nice turn over to my left.So this is gonna be our negative punishment method of making sure that a dog doesn't pull forward again we want to just teach the dog, that lunging towards things they want. Is not a good strategy and so we are still gonna use rewards in the sense that when she is walking on a loose leash she's gonna move forward, but if she tries to lurch out and pull forward. We’re gonna very quickly turn her around we're not gonna choke her we're just gonna teach her as soon as you move forward you instantly move away.

So we're gonna get her teased with the bowl of treats that she wants to get to and we're gonna teach her that pulling forward does not work and I've even taken off my treats so she doesn't just simply follow me because I have rewards on me. So as soon as there's tension I'm just gonna turn her around. you see she comes with me very nicely, she looked, glanced up at me but one thing you noticed about Lucy is she's not really looking at me. So she doesn't really think I'm part of this walk there's a nice little glance. We’re getting farther each time but we really want to watch her understanding that my body is relevant to her motion. So she really needs to learn that and she is glancing up there's a, nice little look a little closer each time and again we want the dog to have success very quickly nice. So I'm going to move a little quicker and let her have some success. So she doesn't get frustrated, but I really would like to see her walk on a nice loose leash with me. So this is not something that you can do in just a few trials. It will take some practice, but we definitely want the dog looking up at me a lot more so we're seeing that when we get started. I hope you have found how to train a dog to walk on a leash beside you in this articel, and you can make starting fast.

How To Potty Train A Puppy Fast?

how to potty train a puppy fast?

If you want to know the most efficient way to house train your new puppy or dog, today's episode is for you. House training is a little bit more involved than most people imagine. But today I'm going to show you the steps about how to potty train your puppy easily you need to take in order to make the process as smooth as possible. Now one of the easiest things you can do to set up your new pup for house training success is to feed them on a consistent schedule. You should also be feeding your puppy a high quality food as well. We want to revolutionize the way people teach dogs help us do that by changing the way you buy dog food. Now what do you say we go do some house training with bb-8 the Alaskan Klee Kai. it's our responsibility as people to show our dogs where they can and can't go and house training is a months-long process but it's a good opportunity for you to become consistent and that is a telltale sign of a good teacher.

How do You Potty Train a Puppy When you Work?

See dogs aren't born knowing where they should and shouldn't relieve themselves. House training success is fastest achieved when you get really good at controlling your dog's environment and supervising them really well. Our overall goal is to teach our dogs that our house is their house. See instinctively dogs don't like to do their business where they live and sleep but it can take a while for them to generalize an entire house as their primary residence. Let me show you what I mean. If this is your house you first want your dog to understand that this area is their living space before expecting them to generalize the whole living room, the kitchen, bathroom and so on until they've learned that the whole house is their house. You do this by slowly giving your dog access to the rest of the house under heavy supervision over time along with taking them outside very often. So what are the best ways to control your dog's environment.

I've found that the best way is by actual attaching a leash to you. This way your dog can't wander off into another room and you're in a better position to kind of take cues from your dog that they might want to go outside. Now if you need help introducing a leash and a harness to your dog I'll have a link in the description potty training your puppy baby gates are a great way to control where your dog can and can't go. You could also get a puppy playpen like this one and this will give your dog a fair amount of room when you want to break from heavy supervision from time to time. No matter how you decide to control your dog's environment. Make sure you go out of your way to ensure that they're having a great time in whatever environment you choose. A crate is a nice way to give your dog a cozy place to hang out when you can't really supervise them now since a crate is pretty small relative to a big room. Your dog is less likely to do their business inside of the crate and they'll be more likely to accept it as their primary living space. Remember dogs don't like to do their business where they live and sleep.

How to Potty Train a Puppy to go Outside?

Understand though the crate is not a dog sitter it's, just a way to keep your dog safe and out of trouble for short periods of time. When you absolutely can't supervise them but you want to introduce the crate delicately in order to make sure that your dog enjoys being inside.First we're gonna let bb8 just kind of explore the crate I'm gonna open it up, let them smell it, let them check it out not forcing them in the crate at all. I like how are you reacted there I'm just gonna give him a treat again just to create a positive association while being in the presence of this crane and I'm gonna try and get him to go inside of the crate voluntarily, because I don't want to force him in the crate I want him to want to go in the crate. I'm gonna try and put the treat in a little bit farther now. Okay who a look at that did you see that he went in all by himself again keeping the store open letting him know he can come and go at least at this point. In this training you can even treat him from outside of the crate right here and really I'm just trying to achieve giving him comfortable with being in here for a little bit longer.

I'm using tiny pieces of real chicken. Now I'm gonna close the door like this and I'm gonna walk it but I'm not going to just walk away and leave them alone. Give them another treat, it's good idea to just kind of hang out with your dog like this for a little while especially those first few training sessions. You might notice that I have a divider panel in this particular crate that's because I don't want it to be too big for him right off the bat. The crate should be big enough for your dog to very comfortably move around in, but not necessarily take several steps in a row in. This is a very temporary step after your dog is starting to make the connection that, this is where they hang out a lot you can then begin to enlarge the crate to be clear. An oversized crate is absolutely fine after your dog has gone several days without having an accident in the crate. In the beginning place the crate near your bed so that your dog is less likely to have anxiety when you go to bed at night.

It’s normal that your puppy might keep you awake sometimes in the middle of the night and yeah, you'll have to get in the habit of getting up and taking them outside. Hey that's just part of having a puppy it'll get better though and later you can move the crate into another room if you want to. Now a good rule of thumb for how long your dog should be in the crate is roughly one hour per month of age. However you really want to avoid having any dog stay in a crate for more than four or five hours at a time at, any age with the exception of overnight.

Puppy Potty Training Schedule?

See this is why it's important to have additional puppy proofed areas available like a puppy proof laundry room or bathroom. Where you can tolerate potty accidents if they do occur in case you do need to leave your dog alone for a little while. Before leaving your dog alone for many hours at a time do your best to give them age-appropriate exercise. Now since many of us have jobs that require us to be away from the house for more than eight hours at a time, make arrangements to come home at lunch and let them out and play for about thirty or forty-five minutes if possible. If this isn't practical for you though you might need to enlist the help of a friend family member dog walker or doggie daycare. So how often should you let your dog outside to go on a potty break. Well in general I recommend about once an hour. Make sure you take them outside immediately upon arriving home or waking up.

Be prepared to stay outside for five to ten minutes. It’s okay if they don't go each time, but it's important that you continually give them the opportunity to go. Now in cases where they've been left alone for two or more hour make sure you take them outside immediately upon arriving home or waking up. Why are you waiting for your dog to relieve himself? be boring. Just let him check out the environment because you don't want to distract him. Now when he finishes going that's when you reward him big. It’s as though going potty outside unlocks the most fun version of you to your dog. Now you can reward them with a great treat or even a short play session. Creating positive associations in this way will make your dog actually want to go outside to do their business. Now if your dog does have an accident inside, don't punish him. This is about as effective as punishing an infant for going in their diaper. Your dog isn't to blame for this accident either you weren't consistent enough or you didn't control the environment well enough just do a better job next time.

So what do you do if you actually catch your dog in the act of going inside. Well if possible pick them up and rush them outside, otherwise clean up the mess doing your best to eliminate any odors and do a better job of following the steps I've outlined in this articel. So far now some of you might be wondering about submissive or excitement urination, that's where your dog pees when they get a little nervous or extra excited. Now typically most dogs will outgrow. This by the time they're 12 to 18 months of age, but if you prioritize socializing your dog they'll probably get there sooner rather than later. In general I'd recommend against using puppy pads unless you have a unique situation like maybe you live in a high-rise apartment where it's impractical to get your dog outside very often. That’s because dogs generally develop a preference to whatever texture they experience most often while relieving themselves.

How to Potty Train a Puppy in an Apartment?

So if you want your dog to go on grass full-time, well just introduce them to lots of grass and give lots of praise when they do their business in the right place. Most people celebrate house-training success a little bit too prematurely. So how will you know when your dog is completely house trained. Well I'd say that once they go one to two months with absolutely no accidents and can go several hours between potty breaks you're probably out of the woods. Regression is likely especially in the first year or if you move or your dog experiences another major change to their environment. If this happens just take a step back and go back to basics. Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog remain vigilant for six straight months without letting are down. Dogs are relinquished all of the time because of issues with house training and other problem behaviors.

How to Crate Train a Puppy?

how to crate train a puppy?

Today’s articel is sponsored by Midwest homes for pets and today I'm going to show you how to use a crate to keep your puppy happy safe and trained. It does not get any cuter than this meet Magnolia she is an 11 week old American cocker. I'll have a link to that and I'll have a link to my playlist that will show you how to teach your dog all of the basics in order in the description. If you're new to training a dog, you're very likely making the very common mistake of not controlling your puppy's environment sufficiently. It’s really easy to underestimate how important this is, since you're in the communication building. Base with your dog you're not going to yet have reliable communication because you haven't trained them yet and it takes many months to have a well-trained dog.

Crate Training A Puppy Crying

So you have to strictly control their environment in the mean time. Now broadly speaking there are 3 ways to control your dog's environment. The best way is by having them on leash and attached to you anytime you're home. Next you can have a large puppy proofed area like a bedroom, bathroom, or laundry room and finally a crane. Now all three of these have their own unique advantages. When used in moderation crates can be a fantastic way to help with overall training. They can give your dog a secure place to rest save your property assist with accelerating house training time and give you some freedom when you're distracted from puppy training. Of course not all dogs will love being in a crate and crates are not for every dog. But if you go out of your way to make it an awesome place there's a really good chance your dog will chill out, in the crate with a door wide open simply because it's their absolute favorite place in the house to be.

How many of you at home already have dogs like that? tell me in the comments below. This is the latest innovation from Midwest homes for pets, it's called the contour crate. Let me show you why it's special? it's loaded with features like this. Really clever lap locking technology with multiple lock points that will keep your pup extra secure. It also comes with the option of two doors. If you need to fit it in a certain space, or fit it in the back of your car. I love dog crates that have two doors personally. A divider panel is a must-have if you have a puppy and you'll get that with this crate. It allows you to adjust the crate size as your dog grows and that's really handy for house trading at first.

How Long Does It Take To Crate Train A Puppy?

In the event that your dog does have an accident in the crate this leak-proof plastic pan is really easy to clean and this is a real thick, one right here it's common to find like real cheap plasticky ones and other brands. The contour crate comes fully assembled, so no tools required and it folds for easy storage. I recommend that you get an oversize crate for your dog for maximum comfort as your dog mature. Since the contour crate is available in six sizes well that's pretty easy. The better you are controlling where your dog can and can't go, the faster your overall results will be. But for those times when you're cooking, sleeping, or working and not directly supervising, your dog still needs to be in a controlled setting and crates are great for keeping bad habits from emerging and keeping your pup safe in those instances.

Minimize the amount of time though that your dog spends in a crate. So 15 minutes to an hour here and there and overnight are generally recommended. In cases where you have to work though, avoid leaving your dog in a crate more than 4 hours at a time and less for dogs under 4 months of age. If this is you make arrangements to come home and exercise your dog at lunch, or get someone to help you with your gone longer than. That dog walkers and doggy daycares are an option too. Before creating your dog for any significant period of time, or even introducing the crate to them, exercise them. In fact you should almost never create your dog for several hours without thorough exercise beforehand especially with energetic dogs. Exercise almost always reduces anxiety and makes for a more cooperative dog and virtually all instances if your dog doesn't like the crate. Now you can start over by making it a fun enjoyable experience like we'll do today. This is often the case with adopted adult dogs and that's okay just go slow with these guys.

First thing we want to do to get our dog comfortable with the crate is let them sniff, it walk them around it and just let them check it out. Feel free to throw them a good treat anytime they react well since this crate has two doors. Let’s go ahead and use that to our advantage and make it a nice open area to be explored. I'm really comfortable that Magnolia is accepting of the crate. At this point I want to encourage her to go in the crate. I'm using really tiny pieces of meat here about the size of a grain of rice. I'm gonna place it in there and look at that right in there and this is typically how our will go. If your dog has never seen a crate before really good job. The idea is to make it as fun of an experience as we can and even consider using toys. When introducing your dog to the crate tube because nothing says fun like toys go Gator.

Crate Training Puppy First Night

There it Is, I love this low threshold to makes it easier to climb over. Look at that think about it like this we're trying to make the crate kind of like a bedroom for Magnolia. We want her to feel comfortable in it to go there. When she just wants to relax this is her personal space and dogs really tend to like that and the reason I'm continuing to treat her while she's in the crate. crate training a puppy crying Is eventually I'm gonna want her to be comfortable in there for extended periods of time and in general when you're putting your dog in the crate you really shouldn't have a leash collar or harness on them. You want to have them as safe as possible. So now that she's comfortable going in the crate coming out of the crate. I think it's time now that we show her that these doors can actually close. I'm gonna go ”nice and slow". Oops sorry she seems okay with it.

I'm giving her a little treat there just to let her know. Hey, she's having a good time. We’re making it kind of a fun game, for so let's try closing the other door here. See, what happens? we're gonna pull up here and then let it come down. Close right there. Really clever feature as you're just hanging out with them watching TV, doing your thing have the crate out like this and just kind of treat them. Make sure they're extra comfortable, feel free to open it like this and just let them know. “Hey look you can come out anytime, you want it's cool? come here". "Yeah that's good”. So as your dog gets comfortable with being in the crate give them some safe chew toys to chew on just to kind of minimize boredom.

How To Crate Train A Dog For Potty Training?

It’s just really critical to take your time. Now you can take anywhere between a few minutes and a few weeks to get many dogs comfortable with the crate. In the meantimeys, that I mentioned earlier until you're happy that they're happy in the crate and don't forget about exercise. This is perhaps the biggest thing that most people forget about when getting their dog comfortable with the crate. So for example wouldn't be reasonable to wake up in the morning. Let your dog out to do their business and then just put them in the crate while you go to work. You’ll have to thoroughly exercise them before doing that. Ideally we just want our dogs going in the crate, chilling out passing out and being comfortable until you get home for lunch. you can use crate training to take your overall general training to the next level as well, for example say your dog gets really excited when guests come over.

Now naturally your attention is divided in that scenario and you can't focus on your dog having them in a crate so that they can experience being around people. While still in a controlled environment is a great way to phase in distraction train and once your dog has settled down, you can let them out of the crate put them on leash and allow them to interact with your guests because you'll be more focused. Another valuable way to use crate training a puppy schedule. I'll have a articel in the description that will show you how to get that done. I'm also gonna have a link below where you can pick up your contour crate by Midwest homes for pets.
